What is a CAT tool?
The abbreviation CAT stands for "Computer Aided Translation". The CAT tool is a computer program, which assists in translating texts.
This is achieved using the three main functions:
- The CAT tool segments the text for translation.
- The translation of every segment is saved together with the original of the Source text and translation will always be treated as a translation unit. Special functions are available, which help move about the text and search for segments, which require translation or correction. (quality control).
- The main function of a CAT tool is saving translation units in the database, called TM – translation memory.
